Pro Art

Amazing work, I always love this style of painting, unfortunately I can never seem to get the subtle shading differences to create shapes without lines in my style. Which is ok for some things, but for backgrounds, your technique is perfect. Great frame choice too. You've done a great job creating that hidden compositional circle to keep my eyes on the page. Do you mind if I ask what sort of techniques or artists you follow?

Some pro level work...

Not sure why the votes are so low for this one, maybe a lot of people voting low to boost there own shot for the front page. I give it a 9 just because I usually prefer to see full illustrations, not just concepts, (Backgrounds are a good test of an illustrators skill)

First thing, the light angle that you have on him should be casting a few shadows that are currently a bit off, namely his hair, the solid bar shadow currently shown doesn't fit up with the actual bulk of what is casting it, giving me a sense that his hair is more of a wig then actually growing out of his head, still that's pretty minor and I bet most wouldn't even notice it.

Second, Highlights, you did an amazing job on the boots and face to create a good sense of what material they are made out of, but unfortunately the sword, and armor peices all seem to be made from the same material as the base clothing. Adding some stark pinprick highlights for a painted metal look, or bands of reflected highlights for an exposed look (which is done well in the left hip armor) can really make the fact that those parts offer some extra protection pop out a bit more.

clean it up

great perspective and character design, the face is the only part bothering me much, also if you clean up your sketchyness a bit that would help.

I would like to know what you didn't like about the face

Im actually kinda pissed at the low review scores, your work is actually pretty well done as faras shape, depth, and color go. However, a few things could be tweaked, the character in the back for instance, it doesnt seem to be behind what the front one is holding, try lowering it's contrast a little.

Many thanks and thanks for the advices.

About the low ratings, people starts hating themselves and finish hating the others. Nothing new.

Nice work

It's good to see some high quality art here ^.^ One thing with the atmospheric perspective tho, the bottom of the dragos body seems like it should have more contrast since it is closer to the rock, the contrast fades to quickly which makes the dragon flatten out a little and separates it from its claws. Other then that the detail level is of high quality and I can tell you took the extra time to make the feathers look like real feathers rather then fur like a lot of artists tend to do.
